Transformation of Self.
2024 Co-Organized with Emilia Abundis
Transformation of the Self is a textile collection that explores the stages of change within an individual. This collection features five pieces, each signifying the different positive or negative stages one experiences during such transformations.
While inspired by personal growth, this collection also emphasizes the material changes that the fabric undergoes. This collection culminated in a zine and a fashion show organized by Emilia Abundis and I, with the jewelry and hair pieces being designed by Emilia. Studio images taken by Jess Ouimet.

Is the Transformation of material like the Transformation of the Self?

Each textile in this collection has been repurposed from curtains, tablecloths, bath curtains, and offcuts, along with two upcycled blazers sourced from secondhand shops and thrift stores. These secondhand pieces were chosen for either having stains in certain areas or curtain sets only consisting of a single curtain, increasing the likelihood that the material was nearing the end of its life, even though most of the fabric remains fully usable.

The collection was inspired by the feelings of growing up and experiencing the transformation of growing as a woman, evolving into something new. The pieces are named Offset, Distortion, Collapse, Metamorphosis, and Rebirth, explaining the sensation of moving through this part of my life onto the next.
